Judicial audit of seven mining companies operating in the diamond fields of Marange (Marange) in Zimbabwe to consolidate earlier this year, was postponed due to a lack of political will of the authorities to expose corruption, local media reported.
Seven companies that operated in Marange in joint ventures with the government of Zimbabwe - is Mbada Diamonds, Anjin, Marange Resources, Diamond Mining Company, Kusena Diamonds, Jinan and GyeNyame.
Mining companies allegedly taken out of Zimbabwe billions of dollars leaving from taxes and royalties due to non-transparent operations.
Local newspaper Zimbabwe Independent reports that three auditing firms - BDO Zimbabwe Chartered Accountants (BDO) , HLB Zimbabwe Chartered Accountants (HLB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) - were appointed in late August for the audit, but have not implemented it.
"The auditors have been appointed ... but the audit has not yet begun People know that this audit will reveal, and what he will talk about close to government figures." - said an unnamed source.
"The people who are supposed to be audited, had long been scheduled, but we do not know why they have not spent it ... there is no explanation other than that there are some administrative obstacles", - he added.
