Auction house Sotheby's put up for the autumn auction a rare purple-pink diamond, the pre-auction estimate of which ranges from $ 12.8 million to $ 15.4 million, reports Rapaport. Auction "Excellent Jewelry and Jadeite» (Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Autumn Sale) will be held in Hong Kong on October 7.
A pear-shaped diamond weighing 8.41 carats of impeccable purity, a fantastically bright purple-pink color, was made in New York from a 19.54 carat diamond mined by De Beers. This purity of the diamond is considered very rare for pink stones, and the color characteristics received the highest rating from the Gemological Institution of America (GIA).
The preview of the diamond will be organized in Singapore, Taipei, New York, Geneva and Hong Kong.
"The color of this stone is the most beautiful and concentrated range of all the pink diamonds that I have ever seen. Given the exceptional purity of this stone, I would not be surprised if it was sold at a record high price, "said Quek Chin Yeow, head of the Asian department at Sotheby's.
At the moment, the most expensive diamond sold at auction is Graff Pink - a fancy bright pink diamond weighing 24.76 carats. This stone was bought by Lawrence Graff at the Sotheby's auction in Geneva in November 2010 for 46.2 million, which is equivalent to $ 1.86 million per carat. According to the auction house, the most expensive pink diamond at a price per carat was a fantasy diamond weighing 5 carats, sold for $ 10.8 million in Hong Kong in January 2009.
