The International Gemological Institute (IGI), a pioneer in the field of gem testing and classification services, recently opened the first laboratory and institute in Jaipur, the world-recognized center for gemstones and jewelry, Rapaport reports.
Until recently, gemstone manufacturers and retailers in the Jaipur area were serviced by the IGI central office in New Delhi. The opening of the laboratory in the "pink city" has become an important strategic decision in response to the growing demand and potential of this market.
In addition to a full list of services for the preparation of classification reports, IGI will offer its customers reports on the classification of colored gemstones, which will become a very popular service in Jaipur, the center for the production of precious and semiprecious stones. At the same time, the IGI Gemmology School will provide high-quality educational services to local producers, retailers and all comers.
The laboratory in Jaipur will become the 9th laboratory of IGI in India. Other laboratories are located in Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Surat, Ahmedabad, Thrissur and Chennai. IGI is aimed not only at expanding the client base and the range of services, but also in raising awareness about the importance of certification of precious stones and jewelry.
